Signature Time Period:
Michael Lumbrazo's newest release "Startled" finds its origin back in 1990,
while small game hunting in the Southern Oneida area.
The Purpose:
If you have ever taken a walk in an open field you know the beauty of seemingly endless grass
that propagates an swaying pattern, hypnotizing and stress less. The simplicity of the environment
gives way to big sky.
The Process:
My experience with the pheasant species brings back memories of bold color.
The use of cadmiums - red dark, orange and bronze balanced with Naples yellow,
teal, French ultra-marine blue, titanium white and raw umber give the painting
a stark noon's clear day feel.
"Startled" is a 24" x 36" painting that is stretched on a kiln dried pine frame
with portrait canvas and painted with Winsor and Newton professional
acrylics. The painting has a satin finish that generates a warm glow.
Its Meaning:
This species is elusive and quick to avoid danger. One hunting experience during bow season
I stumbled upon a pheasant that made quite a loud escape. I must have scared the bird and this
is the reason for the title "Startled".
