Newly Released Painting by Michael Lumbrazo

Signature Time Period:
Michael Lumbrazo's newest release "Red" finds its origin back in 1986, while small game hunting in the Southern Oneida area.

The Purpose:
The red-winged black bird is a burst of color towards the end of summer during its mating season. This period of frenzy only lasts several weeks during the year and in this time male and female chases each other in a fast and compelling manner. The birds swoop low and swift to the ground only to land sharply to evaluate the dance. The vegetation has just about lost its color and the crisp morning frost makes the air sharp.

The Process:
My experience with the red-winged black bird sparks fond memories of bold color. The use of cadmiums - light red, orange and yellow balanced with cobalt blue and raw umber give the painting a warm and inviting ambience.

"Red" is a 20" x 16" painting that is stretched on a kiln dried pine frame with portrait canvas and painted with Winsor and Newton professional acrylics. The painting has a satin finish that generates a warm glow.

Its Meaning:
This species is a time keeper to me. It flags the end of summer and the beginning of fall. The sweet smell of decaying leaves fills the air and the comfort of what is to come with the first snow signifies the need for winter preparation.
